SAVE THE DATE – Open Day: Employment, Training and Volunteering Opportunities!

Following the news of our recent ‘Good’ Ofsted inspection results, this month we’re sharing a story about a Traineeship participant to highlight the impact the programme can have to help a young person access employment.

Traineeships is a great way to gain valuable work experience, a qualification in your chosen field and one-to-one support into paid work or an Apprenticeship.
Based in Scunthorpe our partner Ongo UK is offering just that!

We have yet again been awarded the status of a “Good” independent learning provider, following an Ofsted inspection in June 2022. This follows the same result from Ofsted in 2020, 2015 and 2012.

In this edition we’re celebrating some of the participants behind our programmes, with stories of personal development through volunteering, and a grassroots wellbeing and arts project. We’re also highlighting one of the area’s largest capital investment initiatives and can update you on our new Cook with Ability course. Along with feedback from a French Intern who spent a month shadowing us.

HLC has recently created a new, free network to support Designated Safeguarding Officers (DSOs) working within our partner organisations. The network will meet quarterly (initially by Zoom) to discuss safeguarding and Prevent issues that are of common concern and to provide opportunities
for sharing best practice.

In March several members of the HLC team visited Belgium as part of our ERASMUS+ “Independent People” project. This is a two-year strategic partnership between HLC, vzwaPart (Belgium), and Karlstads Kommun (Sweden), which is sharing best practice around the development of young people’s pre-employment soft skills (confidence, resilience, etc.).
