Careers Support
We want to make sure you’re fully prepared to take the next step towards a positive future, whether that’s moving on to further learning, securing an apprenticeship, or progressing into employment after completing your programme with HLC.
Developing Employability Skills
Alongside building your knowledge and skills through your programme, you will also develop wider employability and life skills with support from our Delivery Partners and the HLC team.
Our staff are focused on helping you succeed and provide a range of employability, sustainability and personal development activities designed to prepare you for your next steps.
The transferable skills you develop while at HLC will support you to move forward with confidence into further learning, training or employment, helping you build a positive and sustainable future.
Careers Guidance
- You will have access to a high-quality careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) through a range of activities and interventions to help you make informed choices.
Next Steps
- If you’re unsure about your next steps, our team at HLC is here to help. Our Careers Coordinator can support you to explore the options available to you, choose the most suitable programme, and plan what you’d like to do once you complete your time with us.
- Our tutors also offer guidance on progression opportunities linked to each programme. They can talk you through what the programme involves, what you’ll learn, how it’s structured, how you’ll be assessed, and the pathways previous learners have gone on to pursue.
We are committed to providing free, independent and impartial careers information, advice and guidance that puts each individual at the centre. Our approach is supportive and person-focused, helping learners understand their options and make informed decisions about their next steps.
Our careers programme includes a variety of activities that help learners explore their options and plan for the future, shaped by the eight Gatsby Benchmarks for good careers guidance.
We work closely with local partners, including LMI Humber and the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), to access up-to-date and reliable information about the local labour market.
This information helps learners to understand:
Where job opportunities are available locally
Which industries and roles are growing, and which are changing
The skills and qualities that will be in demand in the future
In 2022, HLC was proud to be re-awarded the Matrix Standard for Advice and Guidance. This national quality standard recognises the high level of support we provide to our learners and serves as a benchmark for continuous improvement. Annual reviews and self-assessment practices help us ensure that our guidance remains effective, relevant, and focused on helping each learner achieve their goals.
Our Strategy
At HLC, our Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) strategy is designed to broaden horizons and empower learners to make informed, realistic decisions at key points throughout their journey with us.
We also produce an annual careers programme, which outlines the activities and opportunities available during the year to help you develop the skills and confidence needed to move into further learning, training, volunteering, or employment.
Our careers programme, along with associated policies and statements, is reviewed each year to ensure it remains relevant and effective.
