This-Ability is a brand new £3.79m 4 year Lottery funded programme aimed at finding sustained employment for 500 young people with a disability, learning disability/difficulty, or a long term health/mental health condition. Project delivery is planned to begin in January 2019.

The aim of the project is to give young people the opportunities to explore and experience specific occupational sectors that have job opportunities within the Hull and East Riding area. 

The eligibility criteria for this programme is: 

  • 18 – 29 years old 

  • Unemployed or economically inactive for a minimum of 6 months 

  • Live in Hull or East Riding 

The outcomes: 

  • 200 (40%) of participants into paid jobs or apprenticeships 

  • 400 (80%) will be ‘Good to Go’ by the end of the programme (successfully completing all aspects of the employability passport) 

  • 80% of employers engaged will be certified Disability Confident 

This-Ability will be based around guiding participants through the programme in order to achieve an Employability Passport.  The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) 7 employability skills and 6 core capabilities will form the core of the passport.

The This-Ability partnership group was developed by Talent Match Humber on behalf of Humber Learning Consortium, Job Centre Plus, PADD, The Humber LEP, Hull CCG, East Riding CCG and others. The aim of the initiative is to give the local business community a single point of reference for information, advice and guidance, as well as offering support with becoming Disability Confident.
