Who we are funded by:
Traineeships are co-financed by the Education Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) and the European Social Fund (ESF).
HLC has run Traineeships since 2013 and in that time we have helped over 214 people move into work, 194 into Apprenticeships, and 86 into further education.
What is a Traineeship?
Our Traineeships are designed to help young people aged 16 to 18, to find an apprenticeship or job but don’t yet have appropriate skills or experience.
Each one consists of a high-quality work experience placement with an employer. The work preparation element helps with skills to actually find and secure the job, for example team building skills, interview techniques and how to complete online applications. Maths and English are also available for those who have not yet achieved a GCSE grade 4 or equivalent.
In addition, some accredited vocational skills courses can be included, if that’s what’s needed to help secure that job!
Our Traineeship programmes are flexible and typically last 2-6 months.
Who are Traineeships for?
Our Traineeships are for unemployed young people living in the Yorkshire and Humber area aged 16 to 18. They are designed to help people who are motivated to get a job but lack the skills and experience, but have the potential to move into paid employment an apprenticeship within 6 months of completing the Traineeship.
Delivery partners
We work with 4 selected training organisations that cover Hull, Dewsbury, Grimsby and Scunthorpe.
Ofsted success
HLC has yet again been awarded the status of a “Good” independent learning provider, following an Ofsted inspection in June 2022. This follows the same result from Ofsted in 2020, 2015 and 2012.
Whilst the Ofsted inspection focused on the Traineeship provision, all of HLC’s programmes are delivered following similar principles, so many of the themes noted within the report are reflected in all of our programmes and the impact that our provision has on learners overall.
