The Young People's Partnership

Since the launch of Talent Match Humber in January 2014 the Young People's Partnership (YPP) is becoming increasing active at a rapid rate. At the launch back in January, the YPP was made up of 5 young people;  now 4 months later over 50 young people have been engaged by the partnership.

The intention has always been to ensure young people remain at the forefront of the project, however this already exceeding what we envisaged.

Young people are actively shaping the project to ensure young people’s needs remain central to the project. For example, initially two members of the YPP were elected to represent young people of the Humber at the core partnership meetings, however this has quickly evolved, the young people themselves now chair the meeting and three young people from each local authority attend. This ensures firstly that young people’s needs steer the project and secondly they have the full support of the Core Partners.

The YPP PITCH designed and hosted by the YPP is now the first point in the tender process. They designed this ‘dragons den’ style process to support delivery organisations with their bids, the PITCH gives them opportunity to discuss their project with young people and get feedback to help with their applications for Talent Match funding.

Members are becoming increasingly active in supporting other young people across the Humber. Current projects include

  • The development of a programme to help young people recognise low self-esteem and advice on how to improve it
  • A workshop designed to help young people develop interview skills
  • A Mental Health awareness project for young people and a central signposting service for young people in Grimsby.

All projects will be developed and delivered by members of the Young Peoples Partnership. They are also being asked to speak at events on subjects such as project co-design and youth unemployment.

The YPP is an exciting opportunity for young people to have their say, get some great work experience and raise self-esteem.
