How to use the Event Finder
The Event Finder will help you to find courses to fit your needs.
You can use one element of the Event Finder on its own or use a number of elements together.
- Keyword(s) - Choose a word you think will be used in the description of the event. Instead of using "management" try "manag" this will find "manage", "managing", "management".
If you use more than one keyword separate each with a comma eg. "web, development". More than one word can refine a search in such a way it could miss some events. It is often best to use a single word (part word) in your search.
- Date from - Used on its own will find courses that start on or after the date chosen. If you want to restrict the search period then you should use both "Date from" and "Date to" fields.
- Date to (ALWAYS used with "Date from") - If you select 21st August 2009 in "Date from" and 14th October 2009 in "Date to" it will return courses starting between the two dates chosen, including events on those dates.
- Conference - Used in conjunction with the other criteria returns only conferences which fit the criteria selected.
- Local - Restricts your search to events taking place in the Humber area, to include East Yorkshire, Hull, North and North East Lincolnshire.
- Regional - As above, but restricts the search to the wider area of the Yorkshire and Humber region.
- National - Returns ALL events which fit your criteria and allows you to browse every event stored.
- Provider - You need only type part of the name. Returns results from providers with names containing the text you typed in. However, typing in "Voluntary", which occurs in the name of many organisations, could return too many events for easy selection. Try to be as specific as you can.
Finally, click on "Search" to complete your search.
The results of your search will be listed in date order with the earliest events first. However, you can re-order your results by Event Title, Location or Provider by clicking on the link above the listing.
PLEASE NOTE: If you use more than one of the search fields together the results can be very narrowly targeted and, as a result, you could miss some events which may prove relevant. Ideally, you should reduce your search criteria as much as possible so that you do not restrict the search too much.
How to use the Search function and the RSS function to ensure you only get those items that interest you.
If you complete a search using the search fields, but not limiting it to a time period, before registering for the RSS feed then each update to your feed will be based on the same criteria.
