Who are we?

HLC, its staff, partners and trustees are passionate about seeing a well developed, well informed and well represented community and voluntary sector in the Humber Sub-Region*, delivering quality services to the community.

We are also very passionate about learning and it is this which will help us to develop the local sector and, as a consequence, enhance its ability to deliver those first class services.

Whether we recognise it or not all of us spend our lifetimes learning. We develop new skills to keep pace with change. We also adapt the skills we already have for this purpose. Sometimes we recognise for the first time skills we have been using in our leisure or private lives which help us fulfil tasks we come across in our organisation or group.

When we recognise those skills we have, or learn new skills, this gives us a confidence, which in turn enables us to influence those who make policies on our behalf. Confidence and knowledge enable our voices to be heard.

When we are seen to have the necessary skills to deliver quality services this gives the decision makers confidence in our ability as organisations that can help them deliver on their promises to society.

This passion underlines the values we, in HLC, wish to promote.

Our Vision

To be recognised as the best consortium by all stakeholders.

Our Mission

HLC will assist the voluntary and community sector in fostering social cohesion through learning based solutions

Strategic Themes and Core Values

Our Business Plan is underpinned by five strategic themes that emerge throughout in a variety of ways. The themes are wide ranging and therefore thread throughout the organisation's aims and objectives. They are evidenced at both strategic and operational levels and together with the core values influence not only what we do, but why and how we do it.

Themes

  1. Sustainable Development of HLC

  2. Pursuit of Excellence in All Areas

  3. Partnership and Collaboration

  4. Learner Participation and Success

  5. Championing the Sector

Core Values

  • We value collaborative working to enhance the role of the voluntary and community sector in the learning agenda
  • We believe in the unique contribution the sector can make towards social cohesion and stronger communities
  • We believe the sector is best placed to work with hard to reach learners and make a positive difference to their lives and aspirations
  • We believe in a team ethos with everyone working together, supporting each other and valuing the diversity that individuals bring from their own experiences and background
  • We believe that the learner should be at the heart of decision making
  • We strive for excellence in all we do
