Dearne Valley college is a medium sized Further Education college located close to Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster and serves the Dearne Valley Community. The college is concentrated on the provision of high quality vocational training, with progression routes ranging from pre-entry to level 4.
Working within a specified curriculum area of the college, the successful candidate will provide additional literacy support for learners. Experience of working with 16 -19 year olds in an FE college is required along with an understanding of supporting students with dyslexia. Experience of teaching Key Skills or Skills for Life programmes is required along with a good working knowledge of Functional Skills.

- Teaching qualification, e.g Cert Ed or equivalent
- Level 4 / 5 Certificate in Adult Literacy Subject Specialist.

Our client, a leading training provider based in the North East, has recently secured new contracts to deliver a range of Skills for Life and NVQ programmes, and now has exciting opportunities for enthusiastic professionals to join their Skills for Life team.
You'll be supporting learners on Skills for Life programmes in the workplace, mainly online via the Target Skills Gold online learning system, but also through face to face contact. You'll administer Skills for Life Literacy and Numeracy tests at Levels 1 and 2. You may also be required to carry out inductions with learners, both on and off site.
Although home based, you'll have ongoing access to our client's modern office facilities. You'll also enjoy the full support of an experienced Skills for Life team.
Ideally, you will have the following experience, qualifications and skills:
- A recognised teaching qualification, such as DTLLS, Cert Ed or PGCE
- A Level 4 / 5 Subject Specialist qualification in Literacy or Numeracy (or working towards)
- Good administrative skills
- You'll need to be willing to undertake some travel in the North East, mainly to attend team meetings, but occasionally the opportunity may arise for travel to other regions.

You will provide line management and support for staff and volunteers. Previous experience of staff management is essential.

Working with the staff team you will oversee a programme of in house fundraising activities and opportunities for income generation. A proven track record in applying for, securing and managing funding from a variety of sources is essential in this post.
